Position Opening: EMS Director – City of Centerville, Iowa
The City of Centerville is seeking an experienced and driven EMS professional to lead our Emergency Medical Services team as EMS Director. This full-time leadership role oversees all EMS operations serving both the City of Centerville and Appanoose County, ensuring high-quality, timely, and cost-effective emergency medical care for our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage day-to-day EMS operations across city and county jurisdictions.
- Supervise full-time and PRN staff on a 24/72 shift rotation.
- Ensure regulatory compliance and oversee quality assurance.
- Collaborate with the Fire Department, hospital partners, and mutual aid agencies.
- Lead long-term planning, EMS training programs, and public education.
- Manage departmental budgeting, grants, and service contracts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Iowa Paramedic Certification.
- Associate degree in EMS, public health, public administration, or a related field preferred.
- Five (5) years of progressive EMS experience, including two (2) in a leadership role.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the City’s policy.
- Must establish residency in Appanoose County within 6 months of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NIMS/ICS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Instructor certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
This full-time position has a standard 40-hour workweek, primarily during business hours. Availability outside of regular hours may be required for incident response or administrative needs. Annual Salary: $80,000 (as approved by the City Council)
